What we do

Our social outreach projects span all ages. From the work with children and youth right through to the elderly day centre, we at Community Action Norwich are looking to walk alongside the people of Lakenham and Tuckswood through all life stages.

Programmes run weekly and include many volunteers from both the community and further afield. We work alongside and train many people up so that they are better equipped to look and apply for jobs in the future. Everyone who comes through the doors of the building are treated with respect and love. All those with whom we work with are valued members of the C.A.N community.

Children's Work

Our children's club runs every Thursday evening, 5-6.00 pm. The children have a fun packed evening playing games, cooking, quizes, and also learning character traits such as generosity and kindness.

Day Centre

Our Day Centre for over 55's runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30-2.30 pm. Dementia friendly and wheelchair accessible, the Day Centre aims to combat isolation and loneliness amongst the older generation of the Lakenham area.

Foodbank

Run alongside the Community Café, volunteers for Community Action Norwich work in partnership with Norwich Foodbank to support those in the local area who are facing crisis. From 12- 2 pm, anyone with a Foodbank voucher can enjoy a free drink and slice of cake whilst their bags are packed. Again, if further help is needed, trained volunteers are there to signpost them to appropriate agencies.

Youth Work

The youth club is for anyone in year 7 and above. This club takes place on Thursday evenings, 6.30-7.30 pm and is aimed at building relationships between the youth of the community. It offers a safe place for fun, games and discussions.

Community Café

Great coffee and excellent cakes (or even a bacon roll) makes the community café a great place to enjoy some refreshments on a Wednesday from 10-2 pm. We strive for a friendly, welcoming atmosphere in which regulars and new faces can immediately feel at home. If advice is needed, trained people are on hand to offer support and signpost to agencies.

Homework Club

Our homework club runs every Wednesday afternoon, 3:30 - 5 pm. We provide individual Maths and English workbooks for each child based on their own level of ability, allowing them to gain confidence and progress at their own speed.
